— From Day ToDay – Manifest for the Way of Living
In 2018 we established a Research Team whose main aim is to look into different fields of architecture development and basing on the collected knowledge formulate the new possibilities and mark the new fields where Blank Architects can contribute. Housing development in Moscow has huge opportunities for development. The results of our research shall be published as a book.
Let’s start from Why? The aim of our research was to juxtapose the currently designed and build economy housing with the expectation and way of life of its inhabitants and then to define a vector for its proper future development. The title of the book suggests that what we discovered is requiring an acute change due to severe obsolesce. Still current housing market reflects outdated methods, not enough diversification and individual approach to places for living, attention to location context and target audience. The pace of modern life is so great that it requires cardinal, rapid and even provocative changes which should be done now to make future better. The change need to start now.
THE RESEARCH
We make a research in three fields which are formulated in the three chapter to find out which points will be important for city dwellers in decades.
Chapter 1: how we live today
Does our housing follow the pace of lifestyle change? Can the housing market provide buyers and tenants with a current offer in 10 years? In our opinion, the way we live is already in conflict with where we live. We have analyzed the proposals of Moscow developers today and identified the main trends.
To identify current trends of Russian residential market and make detail conclusions we explored the most rating Developer’s Companies and their projects related to economical and comfort class living supply. Research has been developed in various directions: analyze information from web-site, telephone calls and field trip.
Chapter 2: social data
Nowadays changes happen faster than ever in history. We present the most important trends in global world processes, which are the driving forces of change in people's thinking. Lifestyle is radically changing, and the space is following. The results of existing and expected lifestyle factors and behavioral tendencies of the future tenant are also compared.
In parallel we have immerse ourselves in the trends that drive our world today starting from hyper globalization, new media, robotization, through aging society, living alone and slowing down.
Chapter 3: alternative places for living
The reviewing of alternative typologies helps to better perceive our daily lives. Human behavior depend on environment. Relations between tenants, interconnection with the city and the world and much more change according to the space organization. We focused on the study of the principles of space formation in three typologies: cohousing, medical centers, prisons. Ways of living in these typologies gave us additional ideas of how the how the housing of the future could look like taking into account dramatically changing rules of game.
MANIFESTO
At the end we have formed manifesto points, which should set the parameters for designing the housing of the future. The manifesto describe our vision of the future housing: a modern, affordable, formative city and inspiring its inhabitants. A city in which a balance between identity and uniformity is observed will attract people with completely different characters, goals, and habits. We have formed a number of principles, combining which you can create new typologies that respond to the various requests of its future residents.
