— Severnaya Dolina — Shopping Center
Our goal was to suggest a new fresh idea which will be integrated with the existing newly built residential cluster “Severnaya Dolina”. The site is situated very close to “Parnas” metro station, in the place highly fed up with people’s and car’s flows which follow from the suburbs to the center of Saint Petersburg and forth. We thought that as the building area is located in the front side of the metro station and two intensive roads, it has to form cluster’s face and represent the name of the site.

The name “Severnaya Dolina” came to us at the stage of planning, when we did the first pedestrian flow analysis and we made up a decision to draw two main entrances, one from the metro site and the opposite from the residential cluster. In our design we used smooth and flowing forms which show different nature landscapes – valleys, caves, mountain elevations. As the result we’ve got a shape of the mall which reminds us the canyon where two rivers join into one.
We designed the interior part as an integral part of the facade. It exists in the interconnection with it. Interior gallery promenade repeats people’s flows and proceeds into designed landscape.
One of the interesting parts of the facade is a night lighting which shows how the idea can work during the night. Light is integrated in the niches of a composite material. It shines dispersedly from the top. It can work both dynamically and be dimmed. The main accent is made on the entrance zones.
Landscape part was also important for us. Even if we were limited with space the design appeared with sitting areas at the entrances and with small promenade landscape part along the main pedestrian flow, in front of the neighborhood house.
